What is the Morpho protocol?
Morpho is a decentralized, non-custodial lending protocol operating as an "open credit network" on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum One and other EVM chains. Morpho Labs, the company behind the protocol, is based in Paris and New York. The protocol enables overcollateralized lending and borrowing, yield on idle assets, and embedded earn products — including the crypto-backed loans offered by Coinbase. MORPHO, the protocol's ERC-20 governance token, ranks among the largest DeFi lending tokens by total value locked.
How do Morpho Blue and Morpho Vaults work?
Morpho Blue is a minimal, immutable lending primitive where each market isolates one collateral asset against one loan asset — anyone can permissionlessly create a market. Morpho Vaults are curator-managed vaults that allocate deposited funds across Blue markets. This isolation means a problem in a single market does not spread to the others, while curators handle market selection for passive depositors.
Is Morpho safe to use?
Morpho carries the standard risks of DeFi lending: smart-contract and oracle risk. Morpho Blue's isolated-market design limits contagion between markets — a failure in a single market does not automatically drain others. The protocol is non-custodial, so users keep control of deposited assets. No lending protocol eliminates these risks entirely.
What is the MORPHO governance token used for?
MORPHO is the governance token of the Morpho DAO. Voting power is weighted — proportional to tokens held or delegated. Governance currently decides protocol matters including the Morpho V2 roadmap, governance design itself, and multichain expansion. The token exists as an ERC-20 contract on Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum One.
How many MORPHO tokens exist and how are they allocated?
MORPHO has a fixed maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens with 18 decimals — no inflationary emission exists beyond this cap. At the token allocation level, the Morpho DAO holds 35.4%, Strategic Partners 27.5% across three cohorts, Founders 15.2%, the Morpho Association 6.3%, the Contributor Reserve 5.8%, and Users & Launch Pools plus Early Contributors 4.9% each. At token transferability in November 2024, only about 11.2% of supply circulated.
What does MORPHO's vesting schedule mean for investors?
MORPHO's vesting schedule creates a dilution overhang through 2028, because roughly 89% of supply was insider- or governance-controlled at TGE on November 21, 2024. Strategic Partners Cohort 3 (6.7%) vests linearly until November 21, 2027. Founders (15.2%) vest until May 17, 2028. Per DropsTab vesting data, the model tracks 14 allocations and thousands of scheduled unlock events beginning December 2022 — vesting clocks started at the June 2022 contract deployment, before TGE. The DAO's 35.4% has no fixed schedule and moves only by governance vote.
Who backed Morpho and how much has it raised?
DropsTab fundraising data shows five rounds: a $1.35M seed in October 2021 led by Semantic Ventures and Nascent; $18M in July 2022 led by a16z and Variant; an undisclosed Pantera Capital investment in February 2024; $50M in August 2024 led by Ribbit Capital with Coinbase Ventures and Brevan Howard participating; and a $175M strategic round on June 9, 2026 led by Paradigm, a16z crypto and Ribbit Capital. Disclosed rounds total more than $244M. The 2026 round added Apollo Global Management, VanEck and Circle Ventures.
How do you earn yield on Morpho?
Lenders deposit assets into a Morpho Vault, and the vault's curator allocates those funds across Morpho Blue lending markets, where borrowers pay interest against overcollateralized positions. Fintech products built on the protocol — such as Coinbase's crypto-backed loans, including Bitcoin-backed loans — route borrowing demand to the same infrastructure. Yields are variable and depend on market utilization.
Did Morpho run an airdrop or launchpool campaign?
Morpho never ran a formal claim-based airdrop. The Bybit Launchpool campaign ran from November 21 to 27, 2024 — participants staked MORPHO, MNT or USDT to earn a share of 2,500,000 MORPHO. The 4.9% "Users & Launch Pools" allocation was distributed through such launch pools and user-reward campaigns. DropsTab listed a "Potential Airdrop" entry for the Ethereum and Base ecosystems, a speculative listing for retroactive rewards for protocol activity — that entry is now ended.
Where can you buy and trade MORPHO?
MORPHO trades on 40+ venues. Centralized exchanges include Binance, Coinbase, OKX, Kraken, Bybit, Bitget, Upbit and Bitstamp by Robinhood. Perpetual futures trade on Binance Futures, Bybit, OKX, Hyperliquid, MEXC, Gate.io, KuCoin and Kraken Futures. On decentralized exchanges, liquidity concentrates on Base — Aerodrome and Uniswap V3 dominate the MORPHO/WETH and MORPHO/USDC pairs, with additional Uniswap V3 pools on Ethereum and Arbitrum One. Liquidity risk is low given the tier-1 exchange coverage.
