Vitalik Buterin is the co-founder of Ethereum and the largest individual ETH holder. The ETH holdings are single-asset — 100% ETH, ~0.20% of total ETH supply as of early 2026 — sourced from the 2014 founder allocation, not market purchases. In January 2026, Buterin committed 16,384 ETH to personally fund open-source privacy and security work during the Ethereum Foundation's austerity period.
