The SEC and TRON have settled their legal dispute. According to documents, Rainberry (formerly BitTorrent) will pay a $10 million fine for violating securities laws.
In exchange for the payment, all other claims by the regulator will be dismissed, and charges against founder Justin Sun, TRON itself, and BitTorrent will be dropped.
The lawsuit was filed by the SEC in March 2023. The regulator accused TRON of fraud and the illegal sale of unregistered securities. After a change in the commission's leadership, the proceedings were suspended, and now the parties have finally agreed to close the case.
