What is the Augur (REP) token?

Augur is an open-source, decentralized prediction market protocol on Ethereum — one of the first platforms where anyone could create and bet on markets for real-world events. REP (Reputation) was the protocol's staking token: holders reported and disputed market outcomes. This page tracks the legacy REP token, which no longer powers the protocol. Is the Augur crypto project still active?

What is the total supply of the REP token?

REP has a fixed total supply of 11,000,000 tokens, created in full at the 2015 token generation event. 8,803,986 REP went to public sale participants, and the remaining roughly 20% was retained by the development team and foundation. No minting, emission or inflation mechanism exists. Supply risk for holders comes not from dilution but from the token's loss of protocol utility.

How was Augur funded?

Per DropsTab data, Augur raised $5.3 million in a public sale recorded on September 16, 2015. The crowdsale ran roughly 45 days from August 2015 and collected funds mostly in bitcoin — roughly 2,000 BTC arrived within the first 12 hours. The sale distributed 8,803,986 REP at $0.602 (about 0.001211 BTC per REP). No venture investors participated; allocation was broad-based and open to the public.

Does REP have a vesting schedule or unlock risk?

No. All 11,000,000 REP were generated at once at the 2015 token generation event, with no cliffs, lockups or scheduled unlocks. Unlock-driven sell pressure therefore does not apply to this token. The only distribution events were the voluntary 1:1 migrations — REP to REPv2 from July 28, 2020, and REP/REPv2 to the new AUGUR token in 2026. Skipping those migrations left holders with a disconnected token, not a diluted one.

Where can legacy REP still be traded?

Legacy REP trades on only a small set of venues: Indodax, a centralized exchange (REP/IDR), and Uniswap V2, a decentralized exchange on Ethereum (REP/WETH). Kraken permanently delisted REP and REPv2 in July 2026 during the migration — the AUGUR/USD market now on Kraken serves the new 2026 token, not legacy REP. No derivative markets exist. Liquidity is thin, and the token functions as a legacy instrument rather than an active market.

Is the Augur migration from REP to the new AUGUR token still possible?

The public migration window permanently closed on August 3, 2026, with about 59.5% of the supply migrated by the deadline. Kraken auto-migrated customer balances 1:1 and enabled the new token around July 31, 2026. Holders who missed the window hold legacy REP with no protocol function, and remaining venue support for the old token is limited to thin, low-activity pairs.

How do holders avoid confusing REP with the new AUGUR token?

Three same-name instruments exist: REP (v1), REPv2, and the new AUGUR token from the 2026 fork. Before any transaction, the token contract should be verified on Etherscan — legacy REP on Ethereum uses the contract 0x1985365e9f78359a9B6AD760e32412f4a447E263, while REPv2 uses 0x221657776846890989a759ba2973e427dff5c9bb and the new AUGUR token uses 0xCf6A0A7826fa124B7705d6f3c675eAD76f1e540D. Migration-based instruments carry different contracts, and same-name confusion between the legacy token and the 2026 successor is the main operational risk for holders.
