Aptos (APT): Price Chart and Market Data
This overview outlines the project's block processing framework, tokenomics, funding history, token unlock schedule, and primary trading venues.
What is Aptos?
Aptos is essentially a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) Layer-1 network built on the Move programming language. Since it actually grew out of Meta's scrapped Diem and Libra projects, the whole point is solving the usual blockchain headaches—you know, scaling, high costs, and security traps. They do this by running parallel transactions on-chain alongside their AptosBFT consensus model to handle massive dApps without breaking a sweat.
How does the block processing work?
It uses something called Block-STM, which is basically an optimistic concurrency framework. Instead of processing things one by one, it runs transactions simultaneously and just automatically figures out any data conflicts on the fly. Developers don't even have to declare data access beforehand. Performance-wise, it's pretty wild—tests show it hitting around 170,000 transactions per second (TPS) when things are quiet, and holding steady at about 80,000 TPS even under heavy load.
Are there supply caps in the Aptos tokenomics?
Yes, it actually is now. The total supply is permanently capped at 2.1 billion APT. They originally launched with an uncapped inflationary model, but a 2025 community proposal scrapped that for a hard cap. Worth noting here is that the network is steadily shifting deflationary. Between burning gas fees and slashing staking rewards, they're aiming to eventually burn more tokens than they mint.
Who backed the ecosystem?
They’ve pulled in north of $350 million across a few massive funding rounds. Things really kicked off in March 2022 with a $200 million seed round led by a16z, quickly followed by Jump Crypto leading a $150 million Series A that July. The project also secured backing from heavy hitters like Multicoin Capital, PayPal Ventures, Dragonfly, and Foresight Ventures, who actually led a strategic round in late 2024.
What is the Aptos token unlock schedule?
Out of the 1 billion APT genesis supply, the breakdown was 51.02% to the community, 19% to core contributors, 16.5% to the foundation, and 13.48% to investors. We're pretty deep into the unlocks now. A large majority of investor and core contributor allocations are already in circulation, with their vesting periods nearing completion. Conversely, the community and foundation allocations are on a much slower release schedule, spreading out over several years.
Where are the main trading venues?
Pretty much everywhere at this point. You can trade APT on most major centralized hubs—think Binance, OKX, Bybit, KuCoin, Gate.io, and MEXC. They all run active spot and perp markets. If you're more of an on-chain trader, you can hit up decentralized platforms like Decibel DEX or Merkle Trade for swaps and margin.
