Chia (XCH) is the native coin of Chia Network, an open-source Layer-1 blockchain founded by BitTorrent creator Bram Cohen. Mainnet launched on March 19, 2021. Chia Network positions the chain as settlement infrastructure for enterprise and compliant markets, and smart contracts on the network run in Chialisp, Chia's own programming language. Consensus relies on disk space committed by participants, a model the project markets as a lower-energy alternative to Proof of Work.
