What is the Momentum (MMT) coin and why does it matter on Sui?

MMT is the governance and incentive token for Momentum, the main liquidity layer on Sui. It pulls together CLMM trading, staking, vaults, and launchpad activity. You might say it’s the project that quietly coordinates most of Sui’s DeFi traffic. The token’s role ends up being broader than a typical DEX coin — it’s closer to a backbone asset for the ecosystem.

How does MMT actually function inside the protocol?

Think of MMT as the switchboard for incentives. Locking it into veMMT lets users steer emissions and improve their rewards. The setup borrows from Curve’s ve-model, but here it’s tuned for Sui’s throughput. Some people see it as a way to “vote” liquidity into the pairs they care about, usually the ones tied to usd or usdt flow.

What does the MMT token distribution look like?

It’s a fixed 1B supply. Community Growth leads with 42.7%, Investors take 24.8%, Team holds 18%, Ecosystem gets 13%, and the Public Sale gets 1.5%. Not much mystery to it — everything is pre-scheduled. A small note: the heavy community share lines up with how Momentum tries to grow usage rather than just raise capital.

How are MMT tokens vested over time?

The vesting is slow and intentionally long. Community unlocks stretch over five years, Ecosystem over two. Investor tokens stay locked for a full year, then vest over four, and team tokens don’t move for 48 months. Public sale tokens unlock immediately. It’s a bit old-school, but the long locks keep early incentives from getting messy.

How much funding has Momentum actually raised?

Confirmed capital raised sits at $10M usd, split between two seed rounds of $5M each (Jan 2023 and Mar 2025). The strategic round in June 2025 didn’t show a raise amount. What’s on the near-term roadmap?

Momentum is rolling out veMMT governance, expanding staking, and starting emissions. After that, the plan widens toward cross-chain liquidity on ETH, BNB, and Solana, plus some AI-driven strategy tools. It’s trying to evolve from a Sui-only DEX into something broader — almost a liquidity coordination layer.

What risks are worth keeping in mind?

The usual DeFi mix: smart contract risk, bridge risk, and concentrated liquidity on a single DEX. Unlock cycles can still shake things even with long schedules. And some campaigns require KYC, which cuts out parts of the user base. Nothing unusual for a crypto token, but still worth flagging before diving in.
