About Open USD (OUSD)

What is the Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin?

Open USD (OUSD) is a US dollar-pegged stablecoin built as open payment infrastructure for businesses. The token went live on September 30, 2026, and targets banking, cross-border payments, settlement, and institutional trading. Bridge, a Stripe company, issues OUSD, while Open Standard — a company governed by a board of partner companies — operates the project. More than 140 businesses joined as founding partners at announcement, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, Google, and Shopify.

Who issues Open USD and what backs its value?

Bridge, a Stripe company, issues OUSD. Reserves back the token 1:1 in cash and short-term dollar assets held at BlackRock, Lead Bank, and BNY, in line with US regulatory requirements. Reserve attestations are published monthly, so the 1:1 backing is verifiable on that schedule. Open Standard operates the stablecoin. Specific equity investment amounts and valuations for Open Standard as a company are not publicly disclosed.

How does OUSD maintain its $1 peg?

OUSD holds its dollar peg through 1:1 minting and redemption against US dollar reserves. Authorized partners mint new OUSD by depositing dollars and redeem tokens for dollars at par, at no cost and with no volume limits. This mechanism lets supply expand and contract with real demand, which keeps the market price near $1. Peg deviation is the primary trading risk for OUSD.

Does OUSD have a maximum supply?

OUSD has no fixed maximum supply. Supply is elastic: each token in existence corresponds to one US dollar held in reserves, created through partner minting and removed through redemption. No unlock calendar or allocation schedule adds to supply, because OUSD is not an emissions asset. The current supply figure is shown live in the supply section of this page.

How does Open USD share reserve yield with partners?

Reserve earnings on OUSD's dollar backing flow to the partners that drive the most OUSD supply and activity, less a management fee whose size the issuer has not disclosed. Open Standard does not retain the reserve yield. Partners can additionally earn equity in Open Standard based on usage. This structure replaces user-facing incentive programs — no airdrop or points campaign was announced at launch.

Did Open USD hold a token sale, ICO, or airdrop?

Open USD launched without an ICO, IDO, seed round, or airdrop. OUSD entered circulation through partner minting against dollar reserves, not through a token sale. Open Standard is a private company governed by a partner board, and press coverage describes the five launch partners — Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa — as founding partners. The roughly $1 billion cited at launch refers to liquidity commitments for OUSD markets, not a funding round.

Is OUSD the same as Origin Dollar?

No — Open USD and Origin Dollar are separate assets that share the OUSD ticker. Open USD is a payments stablecoin issued by Bridge and operated by Open Standard, live since September 30, 2026. Origin Dollar is a different token from Origin Protocol, with a different issuer and different contract addresses. Price pages and exchange tickers showing only "OUSD" can refer to either asset, so verification against the contract address matters.

Which blockchains does OUSD run on?

OUSD runs natively on Base, Ethereum, and Solana. Per DropsTab data, verified contract addresses exist on all three networks. The official launch post also names Tempo as a fourth native chain. Chainlink serves as the official pricing oracle for the token.

Where can traders buy the OUSD stablecoin?

Per DropsTab data, the sole centralized spot listing is the Kraken OUSD/USD pair, with decentralized liquidity concentrated in Uniswap pools on Base. Derivative coverage is zero. Because trading is DEX-heavy and single-CEX, market depth outside Kraken and the Base pools is thin. Coinbase access opened through an integration path on October 1, 2026, rather than as a separate spot market. The launch post names Coinbase, Kraken, and Uniswap as venues with more to be added over time.

Is Open USD regulated in Europe under MiCA?

OUSD is not yet listed on the EU MiCA register, so European rules treat the stablecoin as an unregulated e-money token. In the United States, reserves are held 1:1 in cash and short-term dollar assets in line with US regulatory requirements. The compliance status of OUSD therefore differs by jurisdiction, and the unregulated European treatment is a distinct risk from the reserve backing.
