Songbird is a canary network for Flare, designed to test and deploy new functionality and smart contracts before they are implemented on the Flare network. It acts as a testing ground to ensure that everything operates smoothly before being deployed on the main network. It also aims to increase decentralization by allowing more participants to compete for rewards and making it harder for attackers to collude. The network uses a voting system where Songbird holders can vote on test proposals to determine their approval or rejection.
What makes Songbird unique?
One unique aspect of Songbird is its governance process. Every holder of Songbird (SGB) tokens has the ability to participate in the governance process by voting on proposals. The voting power is proportional to the amount of SGB tokens held by the voter. Additionally, SGB holders have the option to transfer their voting power to another account if they choose not to participate directly.
Another unique feature of Songbird is its FTSO (Federated Trust System Oracle) data provider system. The first Songbird proposal aims to reduce the vote cap per FTSO data provider from 10% to 2.5%. This change allows more FTSOs to compete for rewards and makes it harder for attackers to collude. The introduction of a secondary reward band further enhances the competition among data providers.
Overall, Songbird's governance process and FTSO system set it apart from other cryptocurrencies, offering transparency, community participation, and measures to strengthen security and prevent collusion.
