About Tokenised GBP (TGBP)

What is the Tokenised GBP (tGBP) stablecoin?

Tokenised GBP (tGBP) is a fiat-backed stablecoin designed to hold a 1:1 value with the British pound sterling. BCP Technologies Ltd issues tGBP onshore in the UK, and the token launched publicly on 3 June 2025 after a roughly 14-month review that included a month in the FCA Regulatory Sandbox. Per an Archax announcement of 25 June 2026, tGBP represented 95.4% of the GBP stablecoin market and ranked among the five largest non-USD stablecoins. tGBP tracks the GBP/USD exchange rate, not the US dollar.

Who issues the tGBP stablecoin?

BCP Technologies Ltd, a London-based fintech founded in 2017, issues tGBP through its Tokenised GBP brand (trading name BitcoinPoint). BCP Technologies is an FCA-registered cryptoasset firm under Firm Reference Number 928840. The company was reportedly the first cryptoasset firm registered with the FCA to operate Bitcoin ATMs in the UK.

Is tGBP regulated by the FCA in the UK?

The issuer BCP Technologies Ltd is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority under the Money Laundering Regulations (FRN 928840). tGBP spent a month in the FCA Regulatory Sandbox before its 3 June 2025 public launch. The UK's final stablecoin framework is still in development, with full implementation expected in late 2026 per industry coverage.

What reserves back tGBP's value?

Each tGBP token is fully backed 1:1 by GBP-denominated assets: cash and short-term UK government securities (gilts). Reserves sit with regulated UK financial institutions in segregated accounts, separate from BCP Technologies' corporate funds. The issuer states tGBP is fully redeemable for sterling at any time and publishes reserve transparency reports. The smart contract was independently audited, per the issuer.

How does tGBP maintain its peg to the pound?

tGBP holds its one-pound value through mint-and-redemption mechanics. BCP Technologies mints new tGBP against incoming sterling and burns tokens on redemption, so supply expands and contracts with demand. Because every token is redeemable 1:1 for sterling, arbitrage between the token and fiat keeps the price at parity. The peg tracks GBP/USD, so the dollar price of tGBP moves with the pound's exchange rate.

What is tGBP's total and circulating supply?

tGBP has no fixed maximum supply. BCP Technologies mints tGBP on demand against sterling and burns tokens on redemption, so supply follows usage rather than an emission schedule. Per DropsTab data, roughly 20 million tGBP were in circulation as of September 2026. All issued tokens are fully backed, so no separate circulating-versus-total split applies.

Does tGBP have a vesting schedule or token unlocks?

No. tGBP has no vesting schedule, cliff dates, or insider unlock events. The token is not a venture-funded asset with allocated tranches — supply follows demand for minting and redemption. The supply risk relevant to holders is reserve transparency and redemption integrity, which BCP Technologies addresses through segregated reserves and published transparency reports.

Where can you buy and trade Tokenised GBP (tGBP)?

tGBP trades as a spot instrument on centralized exchanges; exchange data on DropsTab lists no decentralized exchange pairs. Kraken runs a TGBP/USD spot pair. Coinbase listed tGBP on 22 April 2026 — the first GBP-backed stablecoin on the exchange — available through the Coinbase app and Coinbase Exchange. tGBP is also available in the Wirex app, on the issuer's BCP.Markets venue, and through Archax's OTC desk for fiat on- and off-ramping.

How liquid is tGBP compared with USD stablecoins?

tGBP liquidity is thin relative to USDT and USDC markets. GBP stablecoin order books are materially shallower than USD stablecoin books, and depth on centralized exchange pairs (Kraken, Coinbase) is the primary trading venue. The token's utility concentrates in UK-regulated channels, which further limits on-chain and cross-venue liquidity.

What can tGBP be used for in payments and DeFi?

Use cases for tGBP span payments, cross-border transfers, institutional collateral, and self-custody of GBP. Under a distribution agreement announced 25 June 2026, holders can purchase tokenized real-world assets on Archax, including tokenized money-market funds from BlackRock, Fidelity, Aberdeen, BNY, L&G and State Street. A tGBP vault on Morpho offers GBP-denominated on-chain yield, and tGBP functions as DeFi collateral.
