About Vanguard xStock (VTIX)

What is Vanguard xStock (VTIX)?

Vanguard xStock (VTIX) is a tokenized tracker certificate that gives crypto-native traders on-chain exposure to the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) — a large-cap-heavy slice of the entire U.S. stock market. Issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited under the xStocks brand, VTIX belongs to the tokenized-equity / RWA segment: real VTI shares sit in regulated custody while the token trades on crypto rails 24/5. Holders get indirect price exposure, not shareholder rights.

Is Vanguard xStock (VTIX) issued by Vanguard or Backed Finance?

No. Vanguard xStock (VTIX) is issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited, a Jersey private limited company, under the xStocks brand, with Backed Finance AG acting as tokenizer. Vanguard only manages the underlying VTI fund and neither issues nor endorses the token. Distribution routes through Kraken entities, including MiFID II-regulated Payward Europe Digital Solutions CY Ltd.

What ETF does VTIX track?

VTIX tracks the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI, ISIN US9229087690). VTI tracks the Morningstar U.S. Total Market Index (renamed from the CRSP U.S. Total Market Index effective July 2026), covering large-, mid-, small- and micro-cap U.S. stocks — roughly 3,500+ holdings at a ~0.03% expense ratio. The certificate mirrors VTI's market price; it does not carry voting rights in the underlying companies.

Is VTIX backed 1:1 by real VTI shares?

Yes. Per Kraken and xStocks documentation, each VTIX certificate is backed 1:1 by real VTI shares held in regulated custody. Custodians named by Backed include Alpaca Securities LLC, InCore Bank AG and Maerki Baumann & Co. AG, with Security Agent Services AG as security agent. Certificate pricing can still deviate from VTI NAV where venue liquidity is thin.

How does VTIX tokenomics work — is there a max supply?

VTIX has no fixed maximum supply. The certificate runs an elastic mint-and-burn inventory: tokens are minted on demand when VTI shares are deposited and burned on redemption, so supply follows market demand — see DropsTab for the live figure. Fees per Backed's product page: 0.03% per year management cost, plus an issuance/redemption fee of up to 0.50% of investment value on entry and exit.

Where can I buy VTIX?

Per DropsTab data, VTIX trades spot on Gate (VTIX/USDT). Kraken separately lists VTIx under its xStocks offering, with purchases from $1 and sell-side into USD, crypto or stablecoins. The token is deployed on Solana, BNB Smart Chain and Arbitrum One; xstocks.com names Kraken, Bybit, OKX, Gate and Bitget among venues for the xStocks family.

Can US users trade VTIX and other xStocks?

No. Per xstocks.com, VTIX is not registered under the U.S. Securities Act and is unavailable to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, plus sanctioned jurisdictions. Backed's product page requires purchasers to qualify as "Qualified Investors" — for example, EU/EEA under Regulation (EU) 2017/1129 or Swiss FinSA professional clients. Kraken's buy widget also flags Singapore as unsupported.

Is VTIX the same as the Cboe VIX Tail Hedge Index?

No. The ticker "VTIX" is shared by two unrelated instruments. In traditional finance, VTIX refers to the Cboe VIX Tail Hedge Index, a volatility-hedging benchmark. Vanguard xStock (VTIX) is a tokenized tracker certificate on VTI trading on crypto venues. Searches for Cboe tail-hedge data will not match this token.
