What is the Gno.land blockchain?

Gno.land is an open-source Layer 1 smart-contract platform whose programs run in Gnolang (Gno), a deterministic variant of the Go programming language executed by its own virtual machine, the GnoVM. Jae Kwon — co-founder of Cosmos and Tendermint — started the project in 2022 under NewTendermint. Gno.land mainnet launched on September 12, 2026 as a fresh chain with the chain ID gnoland-1. Gno.land smart contracts, called realms, are persistent on-chain modules written in Gno.

How does the Gnolang (Gno) language work?

Gnolang (Gno) is an interpreted, fully deterministic variation of Go, executed by the GnoVM rather than the EVM. Determinism means identical inputs produce identical results on every node. Realms — Gno.land's smart contracts — persist their state on-chain between executions. The language targets Go's large developer base, so existing Go developers can write Gno contracts without learning a new language from scratch. The genesis allocation splits the 1.333 billion supply across two airdrops (581 million combined), a NewTendermint discretionary allocation (332 million), investors (300 million), and treasury buckets.

Who backed Gno.land, and how did the GNOT public sale work?

No VC funding rounds are publicly disclosed for Gno.land; founder Jae Kwon and NewTendermint are the visible backers. The only documented raise was a public auction of 38,760,000 GNOT starting at $0.0645, held July 20–27, 2026 via Sonar with a $2.5 million soft cap.
