What is Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) coin?
Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) is the native staking coin of the original Terra blockchain, launched in August 2018 by Terraform Labs under founders Do Kwon and Daniel Shin. After the May 2022 collapse of the algorithmic stablecoin UST, the community hard-forked the network into Terra 2.0 on May 28, 2022. The original chain continued as Terra Classic — a community-governed Cosmos SDK / Tendermint network where LUNC secures the chain through staking, pays gas, and carries on-chain governance and burn mechanics.
Is LUNC the same as LUNA (Terra 2.0)?
No. LUNC is the token of the original Terra chain; LUNA is the separate token of Terra 2.0, a new blockchain launched on May 28, 2022. Terra 2.0 received a fresh airdrop of LUNA, while the original chain kept running under the Classic name. Some venues still label LUNC pairs with the legacy LUNA ticker, so a LUNA/EUR or LUNA/UST pair can refer to LUNC rather than Terra 2.0. DropsTab tracks LUNC and LUNA as two distinct assets.
Why did Terra LUNA collapse?
The collapse started with the depeg of UST, Terra's algorithmic stablecoin, in May 2022. The protocol minted enormous amounts of LUNA to absorb the UST depeg, which hyperinflated the token supply and erased an estimated $40+ billion in value. On May 28, 2022 the community launched Terra 2.0 as a hard fork with a new LUNA token. The original chain survived as Terra Classic with a supply of trillions of LUNC — a permanent consequence of the 2022 minting.
What is LUNC's maximum supply?
Per DropsTab data, LUNC's maximum supply is capped at 6,447,226,611,370 LUNC (about 6.45 trillion), equal to its total supply. The cap reflects the hyperinflation of May 2022, when the protocol minted LUNC to defend UST. The original 2018 genesis emission was 1 billion LUNA, allocated 10% to Terraform Labs, 20% to employees and contributors, 20% to the Terra Alliance, 20% to stability reserves, 26% to backers, and 4% to genesis liquidity.
How does the LUNC burn mechanism work?
The LUNC burn mechanism removes tokens from supply through two channels. A governance-controlled burn tax takes a percentage of every on-chain transaction and routes it to burn. Separate burn deposits send LUNC to an inaccessible address, permanently removing it from circulation. Community trackers publish burn totals publicly. Against a maximum supply of 6.45 trillion tokens, the observed burn pace reduces supply only marginally — the burn is real deflationary pressure, but its statistical effect on such a large cap is small.
Does LUNC have a vesting schedule or upcoming token unlocks?
LUNC has no active vesting schedule and no upcoming unlocks. The 2018–2019 investor lockups — 12 months for pre-seed, 10–18 months for seed, 3 months plus 6 months linear vesting for private sale, and no lockup for the ICO — all expired years ago. No new unlocks were introduced after the 2022 collapse, and emission is limited by the maximum supply. Unlock-driven sell pressure therefore does not apply to LUNC; supply dynamics depend on the burn mechanism instead.
Who backed Terra and how much did the project raise?
Per DropsTab fundraising data, Terra raised across five rounds: a $10M Pre-Seed in May 2018, a $23M Seed Round in October 2018, a Private Sale, an ICO that raised $62M at $0.80 per token, and a $25M Venture Round on January 26, 2021. The Venture Round was led by Galaxy Digital and included Coinbase Ventures and Pantera Capital. This backing signals institutional confidence in the pre-collapse chain; the insiders' genesis share is now radically diluted by the 2022 hyperinflation.
How is LUNC traded — CEX or DEX?
LUNC trading is concentrated on centralized exchanges. Binance runs LUNC/USDT, LUNC/USDC, and LUNC/TRY pairs, Kraken runs LUNC/USD and LUNC/EUR, and KuCoin, Gate, and Bybit carry LUNC/USDT — among more than 30 spot venues in total. Perpetual futures trade on MEXC, Gate.io, and KuCoin Futures. Decentralized liquidity exists on Osmosis (LUNC/USTC, LUNC/ATOM, Cosmos-native) and on Solana DEXs in wrapped form. CEX depth dominates; the Solana wrapped pairs are small markets, not the canonical asset.
What did the Terra 2.0 airdrop distribute?
The Terra 2.0 hard fork of May 28, 2022 airdropped the new LUNA token to owners of LUNC and to UST holders, distributed at the fork according to pre-collapse balances. Holders who had bridged UST or LUNA to other networks needed to bridge back to Terra to enter the snapshot. The original chain stayed active after the airdrop and continues as Terra Classic. No new airdrop or earning campaigns for LUNC have been launched since — later governance proposals re-enabled staking and the burn tax as permanent network mechanics.
