What is the Maple Finance protocol?

Maple Finance is an onchain institutional lending and asset-management platform. The protocol provides overcollateralized loans to institutions directly onchain, and permissionless yield products — syrupUSDC, syrupUSDT, and syrupUSDG — pass lending returns to depositors. SYRUP is the ecosystem's governance and utility token, deployed on Ethereum and Base. Maple sits at the intersection of DeFi and traditional credit: institutions borrow onchain, and crypto treasuries earn yield from institutional loan books.

How is the SYRUP token used within Maple Finance?

SYRUP serves three functions: governance through the Maple DAO, staking, and funding a protocol-revenue buyback. The buyback operates under MIP-021, a governance proposal that passed with 99.97% approval. Under MIP-021, a set share of protocol revenue automatically buys back SYRUP, with the amount scaling as protocol revenue grows. Revenue-funded buybacks partially offset the token's emission-driven supply growth.

What is the difference between the SYRUP token and syrupUSDC?

SYRUP is the governance and utility token; syrupUSDC is a yield-bearing deposit asset. Maple issues syrupUSDC, syrupUSDT, and syrupUSDG as permissionless yield products backed by the protocol's institutional loans. Holding syrupUSDC earns lending yield. Holding SYRUP carries governance rights, staking utility, and exposure to revenue-funded buybacks. The two instruments track different value streams within the same protocol.

How many SYRUP tokens are in total supply?

Per DropsTab data, total SYRUP supply stands at approximately 1.24 billion tokens as of September 2026, with no fixed maximum supply cap. SYRUP launched in November 2024 as a redenomination of MPL, with roughly 1.15 billion tokens minted at conversion. Supply grows through a multi-year emission schedule inherited from MPL. The MIP-021 buyback, funded from protocol revenue, redirects supply-growth budget back toward holders.

Does the SYRUP token have an unlock schedule?

No active insider unlock schedule applies to SYRUP. Team and investor allocations date back to the 2021 MPL distribution, and the main MPL-to-SYRUP conversion window closed on April 30, 2025, with the final MIP-017 48-hour window closing May 21, 2025. Unconverted MPL was treated as unclaimed, and a matching amount of SYRUP was sequestered in the Syrup Strategic Fund. The main supply-side risk for holders is emission inflation, not scheduled insider unlocks.

Can MPL still be converted to SYRUP?

No — the MPL-to-SYRUP conversion window permanently closed on May 21, 2025 at 14:00 UTC, via the final 48-hour window under MIP-017 (May 19–21, 2025); April 30, 2025 was the close of the main conversion program under MIP-011. The community approved the migration through MIP-010 in November 2024 at a fixed rate of 1 MPL : 100 SYRUP, with no dilution for converters. MPL left unconverted by the deadline was deemed unclaimed, and a corresponding amount of SYRUP was moved to the Syrup Strategic Fund.

Who backed Maple Finance?

DropsTab fundraising data shows $8.9M raised across three rounds. Polychain Capital and Framework Ventures led the $1.4M seed round in March 2021. The April 2021 LBP on Balancer raised $2.5M at $0.05 per token. Tioga Capital Partners and Strobe (previously BlockTower Capital) led the $5M round in August 2023. Alameda Research's seed-round participation is a legacy association risk. Framework Ventures' return across two rounds signals sustained conviction.

What was the Maple Finance Ambassador Program?

Maple's token distribution history otherwise consists of the 2021 Balancer LBP and the 2024 MPL conversion, both covered under fundraising and token supply.
